Hermannfest 2025

HermannFest is an annual festival held by the Hermann Monument Society.
  • Attendance: A good crowd showed up. By mid-afternoon (around 2:30 p.m.), more than 200 people had already climbed the Hermann Monument. The presence of several class reunions (New Ulm High School, classes from 1987-91) helped boost attendance. nujournal.com

  • Volunteers: A lot of volunteer effort went into pulling the event off. There were volunteers handling food, beer/root beer stands, ticketing, etc. nujournal.com

  • Fundraising / Monument Maintenance: Proceeds from HermannFest support the Monument Society. There’s also talk of upcoming major repairs to the Hermann Monument base, which will require disassembling parts and rebuilding, which will be costly. Community donations are encouraged.

  • Opening & Music: The festival kicked off around 11 a.m. with musical acts in Hermann Heights Park, including Dain’s Dutchmen, Leon Olsen Band, and the Concord Singers. Later in the day, performances moved to Harman Park with bands such as The Bockfest Boys. nujournal.com

  • “Thunder in the Valley”: At 6 p.m., there was a collaborative performance by the New Ulm Municipal Band and the New Ulm Battery (plus other battery units), using 8 Civil War-era cannons as percussion in the show. nujournal.com

  • Fireworks: At 8:30 p.m., fireworks were set off around the Hermann Monument. newulm.com+1

  • Evening Performance: After the “Thunder in the Valley” event, Jonah & The Whales performed later in the evening. nujournal.com
