This year, the Downtown Action Team planned the inaugural Weihnachts Markt Holiday Market, held on Friday, November 28th. Inspired by the traditional open-air Christmas markets of Germany and Austria, the Weihnachts Markt transformed German Park into a cozy outdoor marketplace filled with seasonal cheer. Throughout the afternoon, visitors wandered among vendor booths offering handmade gifts, artisan goods, holiday decor, and seasonal treats, making it a perfect time for some early holiday shopping.
In addition to shopping, the market offered live musical performances, food trucks, warm fire pits, and the chance for visitors to participate in family-friendly activities. A particularly magical attraction for young visitors was the opportunity to meet live reindeer in the park.
Residents and visitors alike embraced the market’s festive spirit. The Weihnachts Markt added a new layer to New Ulm’s holiday celebrations and provided a welcoming gathering space for the community ahead of the evening’s 37th annual Parade of Lights, a beloved tradition featuring illuminated floats in downtown New Ulm.
